A Helping Hand.

Here are two helpful websites for YOU, pharmacy student.

The first website: http://portal.bpfk.gov.my/index.cfm

BPFK also known as Biro Pengawalan Farmaseutikal Kebangsaan, Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia. this websites was set up in 1978 under the quality control activity of pharmacy of pharmacy and supply programme. This institution was established to implement quality control on pharmaceutical product. the infrastructure and facilitates ware design to meet the requirement for testing and quality control activities.

BPFK is a useful website, not only for pharmacist and for responsible individual. One of the benefit of BPFK is it contain database all of the registered product in Malaysia. People can search in BPFK , to check the genuinely of the product, to avoid being con from con-artist, who can be selling harmful or illegal product. BPFK, also contain adverse effect of a drug, as it is related to MADRAD and WHO.

The second website is : http://www.pharmacy.gov.my/v2/ms

Pharmacy Service Program is a program under the Ministry of Health Malaysia Ministry of Health is responsible for ensuring that the public gets quality pharmaceutical products, safely and effectively; protect their interests through enforcement of relevant laws, and to ensure that medicines are used by health service providers and appropriate patient.

Pharmaceutical Services Division, as one of the main parts of the program, makes sure that responsibility is carried out through three main activities Policy & Management Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice & Development, and Enforcement.

Services offered in this web page are

1.       Cytotoxic Drug Reconstitution (CDR)

2.       Checking Status Registration of Pharmacists, Assistant Pharmacists and Bodies    Corporate

3.       Questions about medication

4.       MOH Formulary

5.       Searching medication’s price

Human Genome Project.

Human Genome Project

Human Genome Project (HGP) is the project of the future, the finding is to determine the DNA sequence of the human genome. The project was coordinated by the National Institutes of Heath and the U.S department of Energy. there also additional contributor included universities across the United Sates and international partners in the united kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, and China. The formal date year of  human genome project is 1990 and was completed in 2003, 2 years ahead of its original schedule.
The work of the Human Genome Project has allowed researcher to begin to understand the blue print for the building  a person. As researcher learn more about the function of gene and protein, this knowledge will major impact in the fields of medicine, biotechnology and life science.

The project had its ideological origin in the mid 1980, but its intellectual roots stretch back further. In 1911, Alfred Sturtevant created the first Drosophila gene map. Two well known scientist, James Watson and Francis Crick, who discovered the double helical structure of the DNA molecules in 1953. This has become the crucial first step in molecular genome analysis.
In June 2000, an astonishing announcement was made, where majority of the human genome had in fact been sequenced. This follows by the publication of 90 percent of the sequence of the genome three billion base pairs in the journal Nature, in February 2001.

Now you're probably wondering how does this would benefit us ?
well it's simple, the human genome project was design to better understand and determine the sequence that make up the human DNA. This information could be used to achieve many goals in the molecular medicine. It also mean improvement in the diagnosis of disease or gene therapy. Risk assessment is another huge part of the advantage of human genome project , such as reducing the chanced of the heritable mutation such as sickle shape anemia.

In short, the human genome, is the blueprint of life

AND ME.......

I'm Rebecca Chen, a small town girl from Borneo, who is now pursuing her dream a legal drug dealer one day. My passion for chemistry has lead me into this career. As step closer to this dream, I'm taking my bachelor of pharmacy in Management and Science University .

The purpose we have created this blog for our bioinformatics subject as a practical into the world blogging. This subject is taught by Sir Ibrahim Abdullah.

Protein's World

Welcome to Protein's world...

When you first see these food, what come in mind ??? what is the connection of these foods? what do they have in common ???

PROTEIN !!!!!!!

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR PROTEIN TODAY???

Protein consume in daily life, is an important component for DNA replication.  The base foundation of a protein is known as amino acid. The amino acids molecular structure, consist of  a carbon atom attach to amino group, hydrogen atom, carboxyl group and R-group (variant).

The structure of the protein can be subdivide into 4 group; primary structure, secondary structure, tertiary strcuture and quaternary structure.

Here is a bigger picture of the four group of protein.
Primary structure of protein consists of a linear chain of amino acids. It is also consider as poly amide.
The secondary structure of protein can be divide into alpha and beta.

The tertiary structure of protein is the overall shape of a single protein molecular, the spatial relationship of the secondary structure to one another.  Tertiary structure is stabilizing by a non-local interaction, commonly with the formation of hydrophobic core. The term tertiary structure is often used to synonymous with the term fold.

The quaternary structure protein, several protein molecules, polypeptide chain. It is usually called protein sub unit
